Maternity Photography

… And as a father of three, grand father of seven, and particularly as a photographer I believe that maternity photography is a wonderful media to record the moment and tell the story of a child’s beginning and the mother’s journey. And when done well, framed on the wall or printed in a luxury album becomes a valuable heirloom and keepsake.

I had a hard time finding an inspirational quote on maternity photography that I felt was universal and actually “inspirational”. (Google maternity and you’ll find a lot of political or corporate stuff. ) However I think the quote above is a decent beginning. We could add a few more things and I’m inviting you to leave your suggestions in the comment box below.
I did consult Dictionary.com for my own clarification between maternity and pregnancy and here’s what I found.
- Maternity: noun – the state of being a mother; motherhood.
adjective – of, relating to, or for the period in which a woman is pregnant or has just given birth to a child. - Pregnancy: noun – the state, condition, or quality of being pregnant.
So technically, the work I do in this field should be called pregnancy photography. Either way, every woman has a story. The question is, “will it be recorded for posterity sake?”
For maternity or boudoir, I rely on my experience in fashion and with figure models to create the rapport with my clients, and direct them for posing. I always meet before hand to discuss wardrobe and plan the images we intend to make.
